Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better service.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to force a final set.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
